Eric Fearon is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine - Genetic Medicine at the University of Michigan, with additional roles in Human Genetics and Pathology. He serves as Director of the Rogel Cancer Center, a Center Member of Precision Health Initiative, and Associate Dean. His research focuses on colorectal cancer, cancer genetics, and tumor microenvironment dynamics. Key projects include investigating the role of HMGA1 in colon tumorigenesis, microenvironmental ammonia's impact on T cell exhaustion, and the oral-gut axis in colorectal cancer development.
He has led over 75 grants, including NIH-funded studies on molecularly targeted radiosensitization and iron addiction mechanisms in colon cancer. His work spans translational research in gastrointestinal cancers and high-grade serous carcinomas, with contributions to mouse models and genomic instability studies. Fearon collaborates across disciplines, integrating immunology, genetics, and metabolic pathways to advance cancer treatment strategies.
Notable achievements include defining tumor immune landscapes and developing mucosal vaccines for colorectal cancer. He is affiliated with the Center for Cell Plasticity and Organ Design, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to cancer biology and regenerative medicine.
