Douglas F. Parham serves as Chair, Program Director, and Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) within the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University. A licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), he maintains clinical experience across Kansas and Tennessee while leading academic initiatives.
His educational foundation includes:
- PhD in Audiology and Speech Pathology from the University of Memphis
- Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Memphis
Dr. Parham's research centers on infant vocalization, speech breathing, typical and atypical speech-language development, physiological instrumentation, and conversational interaction. As Director of the Speech Development and Communication (SDC) Lab at WSU’s Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex, he investigates early speech development and parent-infant communicative interaction through physiological measurements and naturalistic observation.
His professional recognition includes the Honors of the KSHA, the association's highest distinction.

Dr. Parham demonstrates extensive leadership through dual terms as President of KSHA and Presidency of the Council of State Speech-Language-Hearing Association Presidents (CSAP). Nationally, he serves as ASHA Site Visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation, completed a four-year tenure on the CSDCAS Committee, and previously held roles as Kansas SLP Ambassador and SIG 19 Professional Development Manager. He also teaches health care ethics courses at WSU.
