Dr. Dorit Engster serves as a Lecturer at the Department of Ancient History, University of Göttingen, holding the position of Teacher for Special Tasks (LfbA) since October 1, 2006. Previously, she worked as a Research Assistant (2005-2006) and Assistant (1999-2005) within the same department after completing her doctorate.
Her educational background includes teacher training in History and Latin Philology (with additional English Philology from 1990) at Georg-August-University Göttingen, culminating in the 1st State Examination in 1995. She earned her doctorate in Ancient History in 1999 following doctoral studies at Göttingen and research at the University of Cambridge (1997-1998).
Dr. Engster's research examines religious practices, ancient scientific thought, and political power structures across Rome, Hellenistic states, and Roman provinces including Germania and Britain. Her work investigates normative concepts, value systems, and the mechanisms of political legitimation in antiquity through interdisciplinary historical analysis.
