Dr. Donna Kotsopoulos is the Dean and a Professor at Western University's Faculty of Education. She holds a PhD from the same institution, where she was honored as the Governor General Gold Medalist in 2007. Her research focuses on mathematics education across the lifespan, postsecondary leadership, and early numeracy development. She co-founded LittleCounters©, a community program supporting early math skills. She serves as Co-Director of the Mathematics Knowledge Network (Ministry of Education), Secretary General of Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada, and Co-Chair of the Amabile Choirs of London, Canada. Her accolades include the John and Gail MacNaughton Prize (2020) and OCUFA Teaching Award (2014).
Her educational background includes a doctorate in educational studies from Western University. Research interests span mathematics cognition, spatial reasoning, gender equity in education, and the integration of technology in teaching. She has secured funding from SSHRC, NSERC, and other agencies, contributing to impactful initiatives like the Mathematics Knowledge Network.
Publications highlight themes such as university governance, pedagogical innovations, and early childhood development. Notable works explore coding clubs for spatial reasoning, OER evaluation frameworks, and equity challenges in higher education. She advocates for strategic resource allocation in education and has pioneered frameworks for computational thinking in early years.
Her professional service includes leadership roles in academic administration and advocacy for women in academia. She collaborates with schools to design teacher training programs and supports policy alignment through applied research networks.
