معرفی
Donna A. Chen holds the Robert L. Sumwalt Professorship in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina, with a courtesy appointment in Chemical Engineering. She is affiliated with the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis, particularly the design of novel catalytic materials using model systems like bimetallic nanoparticles and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
Education: B.S., 1992, Rochester Institute of Technology; Ph.D., 1997, Harvard University.
Research Interests: Her work spans catalytic surfaces, bimetallic systems (e.g., Pt-Re, Au-Pt), MOF-based catalysts, and advanced characterization techniques (e.g., UHV, STM, XPS). Key projects include optimizing catalyst activity through particle size, composition, and support interactions, with applications in energy, environmental, and chemical industries.
Awards and Honors
- Southern Chemist Award (2021)
- Carolina Trustees Professorship (2020)
- Fellow of AAAS and AVS (2018)
- NSF CAREER and Army Young Investigator Awards (2002/2000)
Labs: Her research is conducted in advanced facilities including UHV chambers, synchrotron light sources, and custom-built catalytic reactors. She leads interdisciplinary collaborations in materials science and catalysis.
