Dr. Federico Grillo is a Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on the self-assembly of organic molecules such as corrosion inhibitors and surface passivators on metal surfaces, combining experimental techniques (VT-STM, XPS, vibrational spectroscopy) with computational methods (Gaussian, SIESTA, VASP). Key areas include understanding molecular-scale interactions for corrosion protection, catalytic surfaces, and nanomaterials. He collaborates on advanced instruments like the Diamond Light Source beamline VerSoX B07-B.
Research interests span surface chemistry, materials science, and computational modeling. He investigates corrosion inhibitors (e.g., benzotriazole) on copper, gold, and bimetallic substrates, and explores nanomaterials like graphene nanoribbons and quantum dots for biomedical applications.
