Prof. Dominik Perler holds the rank of Professor of Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 2003 and co-directs the Humanities Research Center “Human Abilities” (since 2020). Previously, he was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Basel (1997–2003) and held visiting appointments at institutions including Princeton University, UCLA, and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.
His research focuses on medieval and early modern philosophy, particularly the history of philosophy of mind and metaphysics. Key areas include theories of intentionality, faculty psychology, and debates on substance and causation. He has served as President of the German Society for Philosophy (2014–2017) and the European Society for Early Modern Philosophy (2007–2010).
Notable honors include the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz-Preis (2006) and an honorary doctorate from Université catholique de Louvain (2014). His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary philosophy, addressing questions about personal identity, epistemological foundations, and the evolution of metaphysical concepts.
Publications include influential studies like Eine Person sein (2020) and edited volumes on early modern causation. His research groups have explored topics ranging from hylomorphism to the history of emotions, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary historical philosophy.
