Andreas Hüttemann is a Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Cologne, a position he has held since 2010. Previously, he served as Professor for Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Nature at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (2004-2010). His academic career demonstrates a consistent trajectory from research assistant to full professor within the German academic system.
His research interests span multiple interconnected domains within theoretical philosophy, with particular focus on the metaphysical foundations of scientific practice. Hüttemann investigates how concepts like laws of nature, causality, and reduction operate across scientific disciplines, examining both their historical development and contemporary relevance. His work bridges analytical metaphysics with philosophy of physics, biology, and early modern philosophical traditions, creating a comprehensive framework for understanding scientific explanation.
Hüttemann's publication record reveals a sustained engagement with fundamental questions about how the world works at both metaphysical and scientific levels. His recent work increasingly focuses on developing minimal metaphysical frameworks that can support scientific practice without imposing excessive ontological commitments. Across his publications, he consistently addresses the relationship between scientific theories and the underlying structure of reality, with particular attention to causal processes and explanatory frameworks.
