Prof. Dr. Dominik Boos is a Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen's Faculty of Biology, leading the Molecular Genetics II group at the Center of Medical Biotechnology (ZMB). His research focuses on DNA replication mechanisms in vertebrate cells, particularly the regulation of replication initiation via the Treslin-TopBP1-MTBP complex. He holds a PhD from the Max-Planck Institute of Biochemistry (2007) and completed postdoctoral research at the London Research Institute (2007-2013). Boos has received significant awards, including the 2013 NRW Rückkehrerfoerderprogramm grant and the Sir Henry Dale Fellowship.
His research explores how DNA replication is integrated into cellular processes and linked to genome instability and cancer. Key projects include studying MTBP phosphorylation's impact on origin firing and the role of CDK8 in replication. Techniques used include RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9, and DNA combing to analyze replication stress and chromosome segregation.
Current PhD students include Mohammed Faidh Aslam, Katerina Pravi, and Eman Zaffar. Boos' lab investigates the interplay between replication stress, cancer development, and genetic disorders like Meier-Gorlin syndrome. His work bridges fundamental cell biology with clinical implications, leveraging interdisciplinary collaborations at the ZMB.
