Professor Heinrich Brakelmann is affiliated with the Institute for Energy Transport and Storage at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, University of Duisburg-Essen. His career spans decades of research and leadership in power transmission technologies.
- Education: Studied electrotechnique at Technical University of Aachen (PhD, 1973).
- Professional History: R&D head at Felten & Guilleaume Energietechnik AG (Cologne), Chief Engineer at University of Duisburg (1977), Full Professor since 1994.
Research focuses on power cable systems, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and high-voltage engineering. Key projects include Ultra Wide Band Technology for Power Line Communications, temperature sensor development, and ecological impacts of cable heating. The Chair maintains an ISO 17025-accredited high-voltage laboratory, collaborating with industry leaders like NKT Cables GmbH.
- Scientific Recognition: Recipient of the ETG-Award (1982).
As a globally recognized expert, he contributes to CIGRE working groups (SC 21, B1-05, B1.23) and has authored over 140 publications and three books.
