Professor Dominic Murphy is a member of the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney and a member of the Charles Perkins Centre. His research focuses on the philosophy of cognitive and biological sciences, with a particular emphasis on psychiatry and cognitive neuroscience. He also explores evolutionary theory, the history and philosophy of biology and medicine, moral psychology, epistemology, and bioethics.
Selected grants include:
- 2016: 'Culture, Cognition and Mental Illness' funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Projects (DP).
- 2012: 'The Structure and Function of Self-Representation' funded by ARC Discovery Projects (DP).
His work bridges philosophical inquiry with scientific practice, addressing interdisciplinary challenges in mental health and biological sciences. He contributes to debates on cultural competence in science education through collaborative projects with Indigenous knowledge systems.
