Dr. Domenic DeSocio is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of German at Northwestern University. He holds a PhD in German Studies from the University of Michigan and previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Vassar College’s Department of German Studies. His teaching spans elementary to advanced German language courses and specialized seminars, including topics like the history of sexuality in Central Europe and comparative dance music cultures in Chicago and Berlin.
Research Interests: Prof. DeSocio’s work focuses on integrating queer perspectives into language pedagogy, innovative language-learning technologies, German modernist literature (1910s–1920s), and postwar gay male literary cultures. His scholarship addresses queer temporality, the New Woman in Marieluise Fleißer’s novels, and queer German book culture. He advocates for inclusive educational practices through undergraduate research integration and queer methodologies.
Personal Interests: Beyond academia, he explores 1970s gay American literature, video games, and Midwest nightlife, particularly disco and house music scenes, alongside his miniature dachshund Helen.
