André Fischer

André Fischer is an Assistant Professor of German at Washington University in St. Louis, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies in German. His research bridges aesthetics and politics, focusing on modern mythmaking and resistance in 20th-century German literature, film, and intellectual history. Fischer holds a PhD from Stanford University and previously taught at Auburn University.

Research Interests: Fischer explores myth’s role in postwar cultural production, political theology, and strategies of resistance. His monograph The Aesthetics of Mythmaking in German Postwar Culture (2024) examines mythic turns in literature and art. Current projects include Black Atlantic religious aesthetics and European modernist resistance forms.

Publications Trends: His work spans film philosophy, literary analysis, and intellectual history, often intersecting with political and religious themes. Recent articles analyze Brecht, Herzog, and Kluge, while his 2023 special issue on Hubert Fichte highlights transcultural poetics.
