Kristin Rebien is a faculty member at San Diego State University (SDSU), where she teaches German and European Studies, directs the German Program, and serves as the German undergraduate advisor. Prior to joining SDSU, she taught at Princeton University’s German Department.

Her research focuses on 20th-21st century German literature, political writing, European Studies, and GDR/Wende-era cultural analysis. She has published extensively on postwar German authors like Heinrich Böll, Paul Celan, and Johannes Bobrowski, as well as literary institutions such as Gruppe 47 and the Ingeborg Bachmann Preis. Her recent work examines theories of reading and conceptions of European unity in contemporary German literature.
In terms of publications, her work spans postwar German literary history, political aesthetics, cosmopolitanism, and transnational themes. Notably, she is writing a book titled Narratives of Unity: Europe in the German Literary Imagination since 1945 and co-editing a collection on Unrealized Futures in Post-Socialist Memory and Culture with Maria Mayr and Michel Mallet.
