Dmitry Klokov is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa, Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, and Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Radiobiology and Radiotoxicology at the French Institute of Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) in Paris, France. He previously led the low-dose radiobiology program at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) for 12 years.
- PhD, Moscow State University (2000)
- MSc, Pushchino State University (1997)
- BSc, Krasnoyarsk State University (1995)
His research focuses on low-dose ionizing radiation effects, spanning genomic stability, epigenetic regulation, cancer development, neurobiology, and transgenerational impacts. Key methods include mouse models, systems biology, and machine learning to elucidate molecular pathways driving adverse health outcomes.
Selected research directions include:
- Cancer: Molecular mechanisms of radiation-induced tumorigenesis using APC min/+ mice
- Neurobiology: Brain exposure effects via olfactory pathways and radiation hormesis
- Aging: Senescence biomarkers and radiation interactions
- Cardiovascular: Low-dose radiation impacts on heart physiology in disease models
- Transgenerational: Prenatal cesium-137 exposure effects across generations
