Dirk Bergemann is the Douglass and Marion Campbell Professor of Economics at Yale University, with secondary appointments as Professor of Computer Science (School of Engineering) and Professor of Finance (School of Management). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (1994) and has been at Yale since 1995. Bergemann is a member of the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society. His research focuses on game theory, contract theory, market design, and auction mechanisms, supported by grants from the NSF, Sloan Foundation, and others.
His editorial roles include Co-Editor of the American Economic Review: Insights and former Co-Editor of Econometrica. He previously chaired Yale’s Department of Economics (2013–2019) and currently serves on the Econometric Society’s Executive Committee. His recent work explores data-driven pricing, digital advertising auctions, and the design of robust market mechanisms. Bergemann’s research bridges theoretical economics with practical applications in technology, finance, and public policy.
