Dion Kramer is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Transnational Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research focuses on the law and politics of European integration, particularly free movement rights, welfare state dynamics, and EU citizenship. He holds a PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2020) and advanced degrees in International Relations (University of Cambridge) and EU Law (University of Amsterdam). He is a co-chair of the Amsterdam Young Academy and leads the Veni-funded project on homelessness rights of EU citizens.

Research Interests: Kramer’s work bridges EU law, political science, and social policy. Key themes include the tension between free movement and national welfare systems, the regulation of the platform economy (e.g., Airbnb), and the legal challenges faced by homeless EU citizens. His recent Veni project investigates how local governments in EU Member States reorganize homelessness support systems amid growing migrant homelessness.

Teaching & Supervision: Kramer coordinates the European and International Law specialization and supervises PhD candidates on posted workers and platform regulation. He teaches courses on EU law, international public law, and research skills at both BA and master’s levels.
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary networks addressing EU citizenship, migration, and welfare state challenges. Collaborates with scholars in legal studies, political science, and social policy.
