Dinsha Mistree is a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution, a research affiliate at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and a research affiliate at the Neukom Center for the Rule of Law at Stanford Law School, where he teaches courses on state building and global poverty.

Research Interests
Mistree’s scholarship centers on the US–India relationship, governance and economic growth in developing countries, and comparative public policy. He is currently leading a book project on the performance of the Indian diaspora in the United States and preparing a major study on the history of the US–India Civil Nuclear Agreement. Additional work compares India’s computer hardware and software industries, investigates food-adulteration regulation across South Asia, and evaluates management practices in Indian higher education. His applied research includes large-scale randomized controlled trials on English-language training, digital-literacy pedagogy, and conflict-reduction strategies among Indian job seekers.
Publication Trends
Between 2020 and 2025, Mistree produced a prolific body of work addressing democratic institutions, public-sector performance, food safety, and labor-market interventions in South Asia. The articles reveal an emphasis on experimental and survey-based methodologies, with recurring themes of accountability, regulatory effectiveness, and the political economy of development in India.
