Dr. Dinakar Sagapuram is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University and holds the Mike & Sugar Barnes Faculty Fellowship. He is also affiliated with the Materials Science & Engineering Program. His research focuses on advanced structural materials, materials processing, and manufacturing, with an emphasis on understanding deformation mechanisms in metals and lightweight alloys.
Dr. Sagapuram earned his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Purdue University in 2013. His work integrates analytical models, computational simulations, and experimental techniques like high-speed imaging to study micro-to-macro-scale material behavior. Key research topics include large-strain plasticity, shear band localization, and tribology.
His recent articles highlight innovations in metal peeling for low-cost manufacturing, control of flow localization in machining, and in-situ stress measurements using photoelasticity. These studies advance sustainable manufacturing methods and material performance optimization.
