Dina Babushkina is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy of Technology & Society at the Section of Philosophy (BMS) within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences at the University of Twente. She is also a research fellow at the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies (Gravitation Program).
Dr. Babushkina holds two PhDs: a PhD in History of Philosophy (Dr. Phil) with focus on Idealism and existentialism, and a PhD in Ethics (Dr. SocSc) with focus on moral psychology and normative ethics. Her educational background bridges historical philosophical traditions with contemporary ethical challenges.
Her research focuses on the intersection of philosophy, technology, and ethics, with particular expertise in moral psychology, personal identity in digital contexts, and the ethical implications of AI systems. She examines how technology shapes human agency, identity, and decision-making processes, especially in medical contexts where AI is increasingly deployed. Her work bridges classical philosophical traditions (particularly British Idealism and existentialism) with contemporary technological challenges.
Dr. Babushkina's recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward examining the ethical frameworks needed for responsible AI implementation, particularly in healthcare settings. Her work explores concepts like patient-oriented transparency, the attribution of mistakes in AI-assisted diagnosis, and the philosophical foundations of hybrid human-AI identity. She approaches these contemporary issues through both practical ethical analysis and deep engagement with historical philosophical traditions, particularly the work of F.H. Bradley.
As a research fellow at the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies program, she contributes to one of the Netherlands' major interdisciplinary research initiatives examining the ethical dimensions of emerging technologies.
Her teaching and research are situated at the intersection of philosophy, technology studies, and ethics, with a particular focus on how AI systems challenge traditional notions of agency, responsibility, and identity. She leads research projects examining how AI systems should be designed and implemented in ways that respect human values and promote ethical decision-making.
