Dimitris Kallioras is an Associate Professor of Economic and Regional Development at the Department of Spatial Planning, Urban Planning and Regional Development Engineering of the University of Thessaly (since 2022). He previously held roles as Assistant Professor (2014–2017) and Associate Professor (2018–2022) at the same institution. He also served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Toulon (2023–2024).
- Education: PhD in Regional Development (University of Thessaly, 2007), MBA (University of Macedonia, 2001), BSc in International and European Economic Policy (University of Macedonia, 1998).
His research focuses on economic development, regional disparities, industrial performance, and EU integration. He has led or contributed to numerous European and national research projects, including JT OBSERVATORY, TENACITY, and POSTCARE 2.0, addressing issues like energy transition, workers' rights, and regional resilience. His recent work examines FDI flows, remittances, and regional inequality in the EU, with a particular emphasis on Greece-Bulgaria and China-EU interactions.
He has published extensively in journals like European Planning Studies, Regional Science Policy and Practice, and Sustainability, often collaborating with scholars such as G. Petrakos and M. Tsiapa. His 2024 articles highlight post-2027 Cohesion Policy reforms and regional business cycle synchronization. Awards include election to the European Regional Science Association's committee (2022–2026) and a 2015 Honorable Mention from his department.
