Dimitris Herrera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography & Sustainability at the University of Tennessee–Knoxville, with an adjunct role as Associate Professor at Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. His research focuses on hydroclimate variability, extreme weather events, and climate modeling, particularly addressing societal impacts of droughts, heatwaves, and precipitation extremes.
Education: Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University (201x), M.S. in Earth Sciences from UNAM. His work integrates climate models, statistical tools, and machine learning to explore land-atmosphere interactions and food security challenges.
Research interests include tropical cyclone impacts, drought forecasting, and anthropogenic influences on hydroclimate. He leads the Hydroclimp Group and contributes to the IPCC WGI AR6 Atlas repository. His recent studies examine historical drought patterns and future climate projections for Hispaniola and the Caribbean.
