Haixuan Xu is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee's Tickle College of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Florida (2010) and a bachelor's degree from Dalian University of Technology (2005). His research employs computational methods to study defect dynamics, radiation effects, and quantum materials.
Research interests span:
- Atomistic/mesoscale simulations of deformation mechanisms
- Radiation damage in structural alloys
- Electromagnetic coupling in oxide heterostructures
- Materials for neuromorphic computing
- Development of SEAKMC algorithms
Publications emphasize radiation-resistant alloys, perovskite interfaces, and multiscale modeling, with frequent collaborations at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Awards include:
- DOE Early Career Award (2018)
- NSF Early Career Award (2017)
- Chancellor’s Award for Research (2020)
- Multiple Faculty Excellence awards (2016-2019)
