Didier Bigo is a Professor of International Political Sociology at Sciences-Po Paris (CERI) and holds a part-time position as Professor in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. He directs the Centre for Study of Conflicts, Liberty and Security (CCLS) and edits the journal Cultures & Conflits. His research focuses on transnational security dynamics, border controls, surveillance technologies, and the sociogenesis of academic institutions. Key projects include the GUARDINT initiative examining intelligence oversight and the French ANR UTIC project analyzing post-Snowden surveillance shifts.
Education: PhD in Political Science from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (thesis: Le pouvoir personnel en Centrafrique).
Research Interests: International Political Sociology, transdisciplinary security studies, epistemology of field observation, digital age surveillance, border biometrics, and the sociology of anti-terror policies. His work critiques the intersection of technology, governance, and human rights in security practices.
Current Projects: Co-PI of the EU-funded GUARDINT project (2019–2022), successor to the SOURCE program on societal security professionals. Active in transnational intelligence studies and digital governance debates.
Labs/Teams: Leads CCLS and contributes to Sciences-Po’s CERI and King’s Department of War Studies research networks. Engaged with the Research Centre in International Relations (RCIR) addressing security-conflict transformations.
