Diane Mayer served as Senior Instructor Emerita in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1983 until her retirement in 2011. Her career was marked by a strong focus on undergraduate education and civic engagement through philosophy. She held roles including Associate Director of the Center for Values and Social Policy, department administrative assistant, and Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Studies, significantly expanding the philosophy undergraduate program from 60 to over 300 students during her tenure.

Research interests centered on ethics, moral philosophy, and their societal applications. Courses included PHIL 3190 'War and Morality' (with a film-based 'lab' component), PHIL 1200 'Philosophy and Society', and topics in ethical theory, environmental ethics, feminism, and non-violence. Her dissertation on Kant, supervised by Berel Lang, underscored her foundational work in moral philosophy.
Advising and administrative contributions were pivotal. She advised undergraduate students and managed departmental operations with singular dedication to communal well-being. Post-retirement, she pursued competitive bridge (life master title) and engaged in public advocacy through letters to the editor.
