Derick Hughes is a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Cal Poly Pomona (2017) and a PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder (2023). His research focuses on moral psychology and ethics, particularly humility, having completed a dissertation under Iskra Fileva titled Humility which earned the Emerson Dissertation Fellowship.
His work appears in journals such as Journal of Moral Philosophy, Journal of Ethics, and Philosophical Psychology. In Fall 2024, he teaches Social & Political Philosophy, Introduction to African Philosophy (in-person), and Philosophy and Race/Ethics and Information Technology (online). He maintains an active research agenda in ethics and moral psychology, with a focus on humility's philosophical implications.
