Diane Marie Amann serves as Regents' Professor of International Law and holds the Emily & Ernest Woodruff Chair in International Law at the University of Georgia School of Law. She is Faculty Co-Director of the Dean Rusk International Law Center and holds a courtesy appointment at the University of Georgia School of Public & International Affairs as an affiliated faculty member of the Department of International Affairs and the African Studies Institute.
Amann's research focuses on international criminal justice, human and child rights, constitutional law, and security governance. She has authored over 100 publications in English, French, and Italian. Her recent scholarship includes work on child rights in armed conflict and historical perspectives on international law. During summer and fall 2025, she is serving as a Visiting Academic at University College London Faculty of Laws.
Amann has received significant recognition including the Prominent Women in International Law Award from ASIL and the Mayre Rasmussen Award from the American Bar Association. She served as International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda's Special Adviser on Children in & affected by Armed Conflict and is a member of the Bring Kids Back UA Task Force.
Before entering academia, Amann practiced law in San Francisco and served as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. She has held visiting positions at numerous prestigious institutions including Oxford University, Northwestern University, and the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg. She is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has held leadership positions in the American Society of International Law.
