Cecile Aptel is a Professor of the Practice of International Law at The Fletcher School of Tufts University, concurrently serving as Deputy Director of UNIDIR and a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Harvard University. Her career spans over 20 years in international affairs, focusing on child rights, transitional justice, and international criminal law.
- Former roles include Director of Policy, Strategy, and Knowledge at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (until 2020)
- Prior experience with UN bodies: U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda
Research emphasizes child protection in armed conflicts and transitional justice mechanisms. She established the Program on Children and Transitional Justice at the International Centre for Transitional Justice. Recognized for her 2010 Jennings Randolph Fellowship and UN Security Council briefings on children in armed conflicts.
