Dr. Diana Thomson is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Carthage College, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She joined Carthage in 2018 after teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Her academic background includes a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Her research focuses on algebra and applied mathematics, with projects involving complex- and quaternion-valued neural networks and the classification of coincidence isometry groups in low-dimensional lattices. She actively engages in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, developing a course titled 'Statistics for Social Justice' that uses undergraduate-researched data to explore social disparities linked to gender, race, and class.
Prof. Thomson mentors undergraduate researchers and contributes to interdisciplinary education. Outside academia, she enjoys family time, exercise, and interests in the arts, ancient Egyptian history, and mythology.
