aBa Mbirika is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on combinatorics, commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and number theory, with recent work on linear recurrence sequences like Fibonacci, Pell, and Lucas sequences. He has advised numerous undergraduate researchers and holds teaching awards for contributions to students. His service includes organizing annual 'Math in the Woods' events, serving on departmental committees, and mentoring students.
Education: Ph.D. (2010), M.A. (2006) in Mathematics from the University of Iowa; B.A. (2004) in Mathematics from Sonoma State University. Postdoctoral research at Bowdoin College (2010–2013).
Research Interests: Combinatorics, algebraic combinatorics, lattice point geometry, and number-theoretic explorations of sequences like Fibonacci, Pell, and Lucas. Recent projects include GCD analysis of sequence sums and visibility properties of lattice points.
Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics, Journal of Integer Sequences, and American Mathematical Monthly. Notable works include studies on Fibonacci sequences modulo 10 and Pell sequence properties.
Awards: 2021 Karlgaard Mathematics Faculty Excellence Award and multiple UWEC teaching recognitions. Active in service, including Sonia Kovalevsky Day for female students and Math Meet events.
