Diana Nicolae is a Professor of TV & Documentary and Executive Producer of RowanDOCS (#6 internationally ranked by the Broadcast Educator’s Association) at Rowan University’s Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts. She holds a B.A. from the University of Bucharest and an M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Her research focuses on documentary film, Eastern Europe, and post-communist Romania. Nicolae’s documentaries explore themes of historical trauma, social change, and human rights, screening globally at festivals and museums like the Hoover Institute and US Holocaust Memorial. She teaches courses including Documentary Production, Experiencing Documentary, and supervises the RTF Internship program.
Her work spans over 50 award-winning student films and includes acclaimed documentaries like Come Find Me (2020) and My Father's Revolution (2019). She has collaborated with organizations such as the Clery Center to produce educational content on campus safety and trauma-informed practices.
Nicolae’s career began as a TV news reporter in post-Communist Romania, followed by roles at BBC Radio and Ogilvy & Mather. Her films bridge personal narratives with societal transformation, emphasizing storytelling as a tool for social justice.
