Professor Di Yu is a Chair in Paediatric Immunotherapy and Professor of Immunology at the University of Queensland, leading the Systems and Translational T-cell Immunology Laboratory (STTIL) and directing the Ian Frazer Centre for Children's Immunotherapy Research. He earned his PhD from the Australian National University (2007) and conducted postdoctoral research at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (2008–2010). His career includes faculty roles at Monash University (2011–2016) and the Australian National University (2017–2019).
His research focuses on T cell subsets, particularly follicular helper T (TFH) cells and follicular cytotoxic T (TFC) cells, with applications in autoimmune disease treatment and cancer immunotherapy. He pioneered studies on TFH cell regulation via Bcl-6 and Roquin, and discovered TFC cells' role in controlling viral infections in B cell follicles. His work integrates systems immunology to enhance vaccine responses and diagnose immune disorders.
Notable achievements include over 100 publications in high-impact journals like Nature, Nature Immunology, and Science Immunology, and awards such as the 2023 Jacques Miller Medal and Clarivate's Highly Cited Researcher distinction. He leads clinical trials on low-dose IL-2 therapy for lupus and allergen immunotherapy for rhinitis, and collaborates on exosome-based therapies for choroidal neovascularization.
Key areas of expertise include T cell biology, immunotherapy development, and translational research in pediatric immunology. His lab addresses clinical challenges through mechanistic insights and innovative therapeutic strategies.
