Detlef Hartung

Detlef Hartung (born 1958, Caracas) serves as Acting Professor of Light and Intermedia for Summer Semester 2025 and Winter Semester 2025/26 within Media Art & Design programs. A visual artist specializing in light, space, and language, he creates site-specific projections for architecture and landscapes using typographically animated texts that generate poetic interpretations of physical contexts.

His educational foundation includes mechanical engineering studies at the Technical University of Munich followed by applied graphics and painting at the Munich Art Academy (graduated 1991 as master student of Prof. Berger). Since 1991, his career spans:

• Assistant and Research Associate at Munich Art Academy (1991-1999)
• Freelance artistic practice since 1999
• International light art exhibitions across Australia, North America, Africa, and Europe
• Workshops at HBK Saar, HAWK Hildesheim, and Wismar University (since 2017)

Hartung's artistic methodology involves multi-layered projections from multiple light sources to transform public spaces, with permanent installations in civic environments. His 2018 supervised project Revolver – Rotations exemplifies his project-oriented interdisciplinary approach bridging fine arts and media design. Current teaching includes courses like BEING & APPEARANCE Light Studio and Against violence against women realization projects for 2025 semesters.
