Hartwig Gerbracht

Prof. Hartwig Gerbracht is a Professor of Metal Design at the Faculty of Design, HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts. His role includes teaching and leading the Bachelor of Arts Design program. Born in 1966, he began his career as a blacksmith apprentice and has since become a prominent figure in metal and architectural design. Gerbracht emphasizes creativity in material interaction, form, and function, encouraging students to explore new artistic territories.

Education & Career:

• 1982–1985: Apprenticeship as a blacksmith in Mainz
• 1991–1994: Studied Metal Design at Hildesheim
• 1994–2009: Artistic-scientific assistant at Hildesheim University
• 2015–Present: Professor for Metal Design at HAWK

Research & Exhibitions: Gerbracht’s work focuses on metal craftsmanship, architectural elements, and artistic expression. His creations are showcased internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in Mainz, Hanover, Munich, and beyond. Since 2010, his unique metal pieces are exclusively exhibited and sold via Munich’s Galerie der Moderne.
