معرفی
Dr. Dermot Antoniades is a Full Professor in the Department of Geography at Laval University's Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Environment and Water Quality and is affiliated with the Centre for Nordic Studies (CEN) and the Interuniversity Research Group in Limnology (GRIL). His research integrates paleolimnology, aquatic ecology, and climate change studies in polar regions.
Education
- Ph.D. Geology/Paleolimnology, University of Toronto
- B.Sc. Honors Environmental Studies (Earth System Science), Queen's University
Research Focus
Antoniades investigates climate-driven changes in aquatic ecosystems using lake sediments as environmental archives. His work spans Arctic/Antarctic limnology, diatom biogeography, microbial responses to warming, and biogeochemical cycling. Key themes include polar lake stratification, oxygen depletion dynamics, and biotic responses to anthropogenic stressors like herbicides.
Publication Trends
Recent articles (2020-2025) demonstrate methodologies in paleolimnology, sediment geochemistry, and ecological modeling to track climate impacts across latitudinal gradients. Dominant topics include diatom community shifts, glacial meltwater effects, and microbial seasonal dynamics in extreme environments.
Awards
- Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Environment and Water Quality (2019-2024)
Grants & Supervision
Current grants include NSERC-funded projects on Arctic coastal ecosystems ($2021-2026) and FRQNT-supported work on Manicouagan-Uapishka prospecting ($2023-2026). He currently supervises 1 PhD candidate and has graduated 8 graduate students in the past 5 years.
Research Units
Leads projects within CEN's polar research network and GRIL's limnology consortium. Manages chromatographic infrastructure for aquatic ecosystem analysis (CFI/MEI grant, 2023-2025).
