Derek Stein is an Assistant Professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, affiliated with the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. He works at the Cadham Provincial Laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba, focusing on pathogens of public health significance and diagnostic platform development.

Research Interests: Dr. Stein’s work centers on pathogens with emerging/re-emerging public health threats, including pathogenesis, vaccine development, diagnostic surveillance, and serology. His lab investigates blood-borne pathogens, sexually transmitted infections (STBBI), zoonotic diseases, viral exanthemata, and parasitic infections to improve detection and therapeutic strategies.
