She serves as Associate Director of the National STBBI (Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections) Laboratory for Underserved Population Health at the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Her work focuses on molecular virology, immune pathogenesis, and expanding accessible diagnostic testing for HIV, STBBI, and emerging viruses among vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly Indigenous communities.
- PhD in Medical Microbiology-Molecular Virus Pathogenesis, University of Manitoba (2006)
- Doctoral studies in Molecular Virology, University of Alberta (1998–2002)
- Master of Science in Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Manitoba (1998)
- Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Medical Microbiology, University of Winnipeg (1996)
Dr. Meyers specializes in emerging viruses, HIV, and STBBI, with expertise in Level 4 pathogens. Her research emphasizes disease acquisition, progression, virus surveillance, and community-based testing strategies to reduce health inequities. She has contributed to global HIV diagnostic capacity-building in resource-challenged settings and co-developed Canada’s Five Year Action Plan on STBBI (2019). During the COVID-19 pandemic, she supported diagnostic testing for Northern, Remote, and Isolated (NRI) communities.
Her scientific awards include the PHAC Creativity, Innovation and Service Delivery Award (2021), the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (2006), and recognition for her role in the SARS Outbreak Investigation Team (2003). She is not currently accepting graduate students.
