Dr. Derek Bryce is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Strathclyde's Strathclyde Business School. He holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from Glasgow Caledonian University (2009), following earlier degrees in History (University of Calgary, 1991), MSc in Tourism (University of Strathclyde, 2004), and MRes in Business Management (2005). His research focuses on cultural heritage commodification, destination branding, and the political discourses underpinning tourism. Key areas include Ottoman heritage in Southeast Europe, authenticity in heritage consumption, and ancestral tourism. Bryce has been recognized with the Knowledge Exchange Development Fund award (2016).

Research Interests:
Bryce critically examines how cultural heritage is marketed and politicized, particularly in post-Ottoman regions. He explores themes like authenticity, identity, and the interplay between commerce and heritage preservation. Recent work includes projects on Ottoman cultural heritage in the Balkans and the role of augmented reality in heritage experiences.
Teaching & Grants:
He teaches courses in Destination Management, Heritage Marketing, and Tourism Marketing. Bryce has led projects funded by the Knowledge Exchange Development Fund and collaborates with institutions like SOAS-University of London's Centre for Ottoman Studies. Notable grants include the Integrating Islam within European Identities initiative (2014) and ancestral tourism studies (2015–2020).
