Derek Boerboom is a Full Professor at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Biomedicine. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology (2000) and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (2002), both from the University of Montreal, following B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biochemistry at McGill University (1993, 1995). His research focuses on developmental signaling pathways (Wnt, Hippo, HIF1) in mammalian reproductive biology and cancers, with applications in functional genomics and comparative oncology.
- Animal Endocrinology
- Wnt/Hippo Pathway Regulation
- Ovarian/Testicular Physiology
- Transgenic Modeling
- Reproductive System Cancers
His laboratory's recent publications highlight mechanisms in spermatogenesis, follicle development, granulosa cell tumor biology, and hypoxia responses in wound healing. Collaborative projects include Canada Research Chair infrastructure funded by CFI (2013-2019) and major grants from NSERC (2020-2026), CIHR (2013-2026), and FRQNT (2011-2018). He directs the Quebec Reproductive Research Network (RQR) and has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles.
- 15+ years studying Wnt/Hippo pathways in reproduction
- Developed transgenic models for ovarian cancer
- Identified VCP as tumor marker in canine/human cancers
- 20+ graduate students mentored (Ph.D./M.Sc.)
- 2013 Canada Research Chair in Ovarian Molecular Biology
