معرفی
David William Silversides is a full Professor in the Department of Veterinary Biomedicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal. His research integrates transgenic animal models with molecular reproductive biology to investigate fundamental mechanisms of mammalian development.
Education:
- B.Sc. in Biochemistry (University of Saskatchewan)
- D.M.V. (University of Saskatchewan)
- Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Endocrinology (University of Saskatchewan)
Research Focus: Dr. Silversides specializes in mammalian sex determination using transgenic mouse and pig models. His laboratory investigates gonadal gene expression patterns, paracrine signaling in folliculogenesis, and genomic mechanisms of reproductive development. Key projects include visual tagging techniques for transgenic mice and genomic studies of sex-determining gene sequences.
Publication Trends: His 2012-2015 publications reveal a dual focus on reproductive genetics (VEGFA in folliculogenesis/spermatogenesis) and developmental disorders (Hirschsprung's disease mechanisms). The work consistently employs transgenic models to dissect molecular pathways in sex determination and gastrointestinal development, with strong translational implications for veterinary and human reproductive medicine.
Academic Leadership: With 14 supervised graduate theses (7 Ph.D., 7 M.Sc.) spanning 1993-2016, his mentorship covers bovine follicular genomics, murine sex determination, and transgenic technology development. As a core member of the Centre de recherche en reproduction et fertilité (CRRF), he contributes to collaborative research in reproductive biotechnology and fertility preservation.
