Roles and Affiliations: Derek A Goldman is a Professor of Theater and Performance Studies at Georgetown University, with a joint appointment in the School of Foreign Service as Professor of Global Performance, Culture, and Politics. He serves as Director of the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics (The Lab), co-founded in 2012 with Ambassador Cynthia Schneider. He has held leadership roles including Chair of the Department of Performing Arts and Director of the Theater & Performance Studies Program.

Research and Creative Work: Goldman’s work bridges performance, politics, and social justice. His In Your Shoes methodology uses performance to counter polarization and has been implemented globally. He also collaborates with the Earth Commons Institute to integrate arts and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Grants and Leadership: As Principal Investigator, he has secured over $2 million in grants from institutions like the Mellon, Ford, and Doris Duke Foundations. His global collaborations span over 50 countries through initiatives like the Global Theater Initiative and UNESCO’s Global Network of Higher Education in the Performing Arts.
