Deondra Rose is a Professor at Duke University, jointly appointed in the Sanford School of Public Policy, Political Science, and History departments. Her research focuses on U.S. higher education policy, American political development, political behavior, and the intersection of race, gender, and socioeconomic inequality.

Her work analyzes how federal policies like the National Defense Education Act, the Higher Education Act, and Title IX have reshaped citizenship dynamics through educational access. Her recent book The Power of Black Excellence (Oxford University Press, 2024) examines HBCUs' role in American democracy.
Rose's publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with public policy, political history, and equity-focused analysis. She has received prestigious awards including the Leonard D White and Walter Dean Burnham awards for dissertation excellence, and Duke's Susan E. Tifft Teaching and Mentoring Award (2019). She has secured grants such as the 2017-2019 NAEd/Spencer Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
