Dennis Blair serves as the Knott Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Practice in the Peace, War and Defense program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He actively contributes to the Energy Security Leadership Council, Security America’s Future Energy board, Freedom House, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and chairs Lockheed Martin Space's Strategic Advisory Group.
Admiral Blair (Ret.) graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a master’s degree in history and languages as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University. After 34 years of naval service culminating as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, he retired from active duty in 2002. Subsequent leadership roles included Director of National Intelligence (2009-2010), president of the Institute for Defense Analyses (2003-2006), and CEO of Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA (2014-2018).
His research spans National Security, International Relations, and Energy Policy, with significant contributions through the book Military Engagement: Influencing Armed Forces Worldwide to Support Democratic Transitions and co-chaired commissions on 5G security strategy, oil security policy, and intellectual property protection. He teaches courses on post-9/11 global impacts and U.S. military engagements since the Cold War, emphasizing practical applications of security frameworks.
