Dr. Denis Nash is a Distinguished Professor of Epidemiology and Executive Director of the CUNY Institute for Implementation Science in Population Health. He holds secondary appointments at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His expertise spans infectious disease epidemiology, implementation science, and global health, with over 200 publications and significant NIH funding.
Dr. Nash earned his PhD in Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine from the University of Maryland, an MPH from Johns Hopkins, and a BS in Physics from Drexel University. His research focuses on HIV/AIDS, SARS-CoV-2, and cardiovascular disease in resource-limited settings like Haiti and sub-Saharan Africa. Notable projects include the CHASING COVID Cohort Study and the Guinea Worm Eradication Program in Nigeria.
His research interests include public health surveillance, data visualization, and health disparities. He has pioneered initiatives like named HIV reporting in NYC and led large-scale programs under PEPFAR in multiple African countries. Dr. Nash has mentored over 100 students and actively contributes to policy through implementation science.
Key collaborations include GHESKIO in Haiti, ICAP at Columbia, and CityMD for city-wide urgent care research. His work emphasizes translating evidence into actionable public health strategies, particularly in vulnerable populations and global health systems strengthening.
