Denis Hains serves as an Affiliate Research Professor at the University of New Hampshire's Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM). His professional roles include Founder, President and CEO of H2i (Hains HYDROSPATIAL international inc.); representative of the United States and Canada Hydrographic Commission (USCHC) on the International Hydrographic Review (IHR) Editorial Board; Vice President of CIDCO's Board of Directors; and active member of both the Canadian Hydrographic Association (CHA) and Association of Professional EXecutives of the Public Service of Canada (APEX).
Educational background includes a B.Sc. in Geodetic Science from Laval University (Québec City, Canada) and status as a retired Québec Land Surveyor (a.-g.(Retired)).
His research focuses on hydrography, geodetic science, and ocean mapping, with 35+ years of government experience including 20 years at Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) and 15 years at Natural Resources Canada as National Executive Director of the Canadian Geodetic Survey (CGS). His work establishes national/international standards in hydrospatial data management, coastal mapping, and marine geospatial systems.
Current academic engagement centers on UNH's Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM), where he applies hydrospatial expertise to international hydrographic coordination and mapping technologies.
