Debra Malschick is a Professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she has served since 2005. She holds an M.F.A. in Art from California State University, Long Beach, and a B.F.A. from Temple University. Her professional roles include faculty positions at multiple institutions, including Laguna College of Art and Design (1991–2005) and Irvine Valley College (2001–2005).
Her research interests center on foundational art education, drawing techniques, and contemporary art pedagogy. She has curated and participated in numerous exhibitions, including showcases at SCAD’s Gutstein Gallery and international venues like Montenegro’s Velimir Lekovic Gallery. Notable awards include a Sabbatical Award (2013) and recognition in art competitions such as the Ralston Purina Life Drawing Competition (1988).
Her publications include contributions to Drawing Magazine and feature articles in the Long Beach Press Telegram, focusing on art criticism and educational practices. Malschick has also held administrative roles, such as Faculty Liaison for SCAD’s Lacoste, France campus (2010) and Assistant Director of Visual Arts at Orange County High School of the Arts (2000–2001).
