Debra Hills is a Teaching Fellow at The Language Centre within the School of the Arts at Queen Mary University of London. Holding a BA (Hons) in English Literature, a Master's in Applied Linguistics & ELT, and a Master's in Creative Writing, she has taught foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs since 2007. Her work focuses on academic writing, critical thinking, and intercultural communication, with publications including the book Critical Thinking in an Hour (2011) and a conference paper on EAP support for STEM students.

Her research interests center on academic skill development, particularly in critical thinking, writing for discipline-specific contexts (Global Health, Economics, STEM), and intercultural communication. She leads the Get Spotted podcast series, helping students articulate communicative skills within their disciplines, and co-created modules like The Process of Writing and Active Learning with Digital Tools.
Key publications include the book Critical Thinking in an Hour (2011) and a 2011 BALEAP conference paper on integrating the WISHEES website for STEM writing support. These works emphasize digital tools, discipline-specific literacy, and student-centered pedagogy in EAP contexts.
She also contributes to external initiatives, serving as a writing mentor at The Ministry of Stories, a charity fostering creative potential in young people. Her work bridges academic and creative writing, with modules like Storytelling for Success and Communicating with Impact reflecting this interdisciplinary approach.
