Associate Professor Debra Adelaide is a Casual Academic in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She is an accomplished author, editor, and literary critic with 17 books spanning novels, nonfiction, and reference works. Her academic career began in 2003 as part of UTS’s Creative Writing staff. Key roles include Fiction Editor for Southerly and judge for major literary awards like the Vogel/Australian Award and NSW Premier's Literary Awards.
Her research focuses on creative writing practice, Australian literature, and women’s writing. Notable works include Zebra (winner of the Steele Rudd Award), The Innocent Reader, and collaborative projects like The Simple Act of Reading. Adelaide has also contributed to educational initiatives such as the Sydney Story Factory.
Her funded research includes grants like the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund 'New Writers' Residency.' Current projects involve a new novel and a co-edited book on creative writing pedagogy. Adelaide supervises postgraduate research in creative writing and teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
