Deborah Schildkraut is the John Richard Skuse, Class of 1941, Professor of Political Science at Tufts University, affiliated with the School of Arts and Sciences and Tisch College. She holds a PhD from Princeton University and a BA from Tufts University. Her research focuses on American Politics, Public Opinion, Political Psychology, Racial and Ethnic Politics, and Immigration, examining how demographic changes and policies shape public attitudes. She has authored influential books, including States of Belonging and Americanism in the Twenty-First Century. Her work spans topics like state identities, immigration policy effects, and political polarization. Schildkraut has received grants such as the Russell Sage Foundation award and has held leadership roles, including Department Chair (2019–2022). She teaches courses on ethnicity, political psychology, and American politics.
Her recent publications address immigration ideology scales, state identity dynamics, and federalism. She actively engages in professional activities, including speaking at universities and serving on academic committees.
