Deborah Gould is Professor and Chair of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with affiliations in Feminist Studies, History of Consciousness, and Politics. She earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2000 and completed a post-doctoral Harper-Schmidt Fellowship there (2000–2004). Her research focuses on political emotion, social movements, and feminist/queer theory.

Her groundbreaking work includes the award-winning book Moving Politics: Emotion and ACT UP’s Fight Against AIDS (2009), which analyzed the role of emotion in activism. Currently, she is working on a second book, The Not-Yet of Politics, expanding her analysis of political affect.
